NDIS

Physiotherapy services are covered by the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). Physiotherapy most often exists as a capacity-building support under the Improved Daily Living category in NDIS plans.

Physiotherapy can assist people with disabilities in a variety of ways, including:

  • Helping clients to remain as physically active and independent as possible
  • Helping clients overcome or reduce the impact an impairment has on daily life
  • Increasing a client’s functional capacity, independence, and ability to work, study or take part in social life
  • Treatment and education aimed at pain management, maintaining good quality of life, and supporting a client and their families to achieve their NDIS, therapy and personal goals.
  • Exercise therapy and development of home exercise programs
  • Providing advice, assessments, recommendations, education and treatment for the management of specific conditions
  • Assisting clients to make healthy and active lifestyle choices
  • Providing recommendations for equipment and mobility aids

Physiotherapists can provide treatment and advice to support a number of disabilities and chronic conditions that qualify for the NDIS, including but not limited to:

  • Early Childhood Intervention for motor or developmental delays
  • Motor Neuron Disease
  • Physical disabilities (including some  and some forms of arthritis)
  • Autism spectrum disorder (ASD)

  • Neurological injuries or impairments
  • Genetic and chromosomal disorders resulting in permanent and severe intellectual and physical impairments
